The following letter is being sent after much thought, prayer, and soul searching. It is signed by chaplains who have served faithfully for long years. It is delivered with the hopes that our compassion and care shines through—not judgment, not condemnation, but compassion for those who serve in uniform. We realize that there are some who disagree with us, some who are our closest friends. We understand this, but we must be faithful to that which we believe is truth. Our hope is that it will be received not as a hammer to hurt people, but as an open hand to lead people to a positive and healthy lifestyle. Our desire is not to attack nor condemn, but to sound an alarm of warning to our National and military leaders. We cannot be silent as we watch a minority in our culture seek to force something onto those that serve so faithfully in our Nation’s military which will be destructive to all of the values that we hold dear. Our hope is that it will be read with an open mind, realizing that the signatories are not outsiders but selfless caregivers.
